Reel Girl’s Halloween list of monster movies starring females

Last Halloween when no less than 3 movies came out starring males– “Hotel Transylvania,” “ParaNorman,” and “Frankenweenie”– I made a list of monster movies starring females. This list is pathetically small! I have not seen “Hocus Pocus” or “Journey to the Center of the Earth” or “Series of Unfortunate Events” but Reel Girl fans recommended all 3. Let me know if you have any movies to add.

  1. Hi Nebbie,

You are the perfect person to comment on Jezebel! Can you try to make a comment, people are refuting that females are left out of titles of movies. I am NOT referring to made for TV movies, or straight to DVD movies, where girls are allowed to be. I am talking about MOVIES, and Sony, Pixar can be included. Here is the link, thank you!

  2. Here are the movies posters on here that don’t diminish the female characters on them.

    1) Coraline (2009)
    2) Hocus Pocus (1993)
    3) The Wizard of Oz (1939)
    4) Kiki’s Delivery Service (1989)
    5) Corpse Bride (2005)
    6) Monsters vs Aliens (2009)

    • And as far as your poster comment, yes! The Lemony Snicket poster is the worst, looks like its all Jim Carrey, and of course, the boy is leading the way. I think Wizard of Oz could have had more, bigger Dorothy too.
